Getting started

When you think about resisting Christian nationalism in your local community or your state, you might feel overwhelmed. It can seem too daunting. Where do you begin?

There are many ways to start addressing this ideology entrenched in our culture, social structures, local communities, churches and even in ourselves. At Christians Against Christian Nationalism, we are working through three main avenues: awareness, advocacy and local organizing.

We have ways you can begin to engage in each:

Elevate your awareness

Take time to dig into our resources to expand your understanding of Christian nationalism and how to discuss it with others. People new to the idea often have questions that create opportunities for further engagement. You can find resources about defining Christian nationalism on this website that you can use for personal reflection and share with your community.

Connect with others to organize

When you want to make a difference, you should start local and get connected. Building community and relationships in the local context is crucial because lasting change happens when people work together.

You can start or join a local group of Christians Against Christian Nationalism. We are equipping local groups to activate their communities against Christian nationalism through education, advocacy and organizing.

Don’t wait to get connected to community organizations in your local city or county. There are likely several organizations in your community already working to combat the policies and rhetoric that are hallmarks of Christian nationalism, even if these organizations do not use that specific term.

Also, be sure you are connected with us, by joining our email list and following us on social media.

Advocate for your cause

There are many ways to advocate for the values of pluralism, democracy, and human dignity in the fight against Christian nationalism. Advocacy is simply any action that brings attention to an issue that matters to you, including addressing these issues directly to people who have the ability to make decisions around that issue. That includes signing petitions, contacting school board members, organizing a rally, or reaching out to your elected representatives about a certain issue.

It will take all of us to successfully end Christian nationalism. We are here to provide tools, trainings and resources to show you how to make an impact — whether it’s engaging on social media, signing a letter to Congress, educating others about Christian nationalism, reaching out to your lawmakers or taking action in your community. We’re in this together.

Thanks to training from BJC and Christians Against Christian Nationalism, a large group of us were able to file public comments against a harmful proposal in our public schools.

Give to this work

The Christians Against Christian Nationalism campaign is not possible without the support of people across the United States and around the world. You do not have to be a signer of the Christians Against Christian Nationalism statement or identify as a Christian to be part of our efforts to combat this ideology. The work involves one-on-one conversations, collective action in local communities, engagement with the national media and much more.

Your financial support of this work helps us to expand our reach and educate support advocates at every level. We are creating change by raising awareness, equipping people for advocacy, and bringing individuals together in local organizing groups.

When we work together, we amplify our impact. By forming partnerships with churches, interfaith groups and advocacy organizations, we can confront the harmful narratives of Christian nationalism and stand in solidarity with those it seeks to marginalize. Local action is essential for creating a more just and inclusive society.
